Step Aside Lady Gaga, Madonna Halftime Show Creates Material Girl Resurgence

With a very Vogue Modanna’esque approach, she tantanlized her Super Bowl audience with middle-finger flinging M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj for “Give Me All You Luvin’. She also got in the groove as a cheerleader, cheering on L-U-V and LMFAO.

Of course we can’t give all the credit to Madonna herself, as her dancers and acrobats seemed to be on cue point with their choreography, nailing every strut with percussional chime or backbeat.

In disregard to popularity amongst her immediate audience, “Madonna was defiantly unconcerned with the more conservative red state wing of the football fanbase who’d never be caught dead singing along to one of her songs,” the Los Angeles Times noted about her performance. “And her halftime show was pure spectacle by the Cleopatra of the game.”

With her next album MDNA arriving shortly, Madonna quickly reminded her fans and Super Bown audience that she won’t be exiting the limelight anytime soon.  According to the Chicago, “This was Madonna’s party, and besides breaking off bits of her greatest hits to remind people of a time when she was the biggest pop vixen on the planet, she had important career-advancing work to do,” the review noted. “Madonna, after all, never does anything unless she’s got something to sell, and with a new studio album due out in March and a tour to follow, she had plenty on her to-do list.”

Lady Gaga Buys a Years’ Supply of Nappies for Driver

Lady Gaga has treated her driver to a year’s supply of nappies after learning he is about to become a first-time father. The Judas singer has also asked her interior design team to change the chauffeur’s spare room into a nursery for his arrival. A source told British newspaper The Sun: “Gaga is very generous with her presents and makes a huge effort for those who look after her. As soon as she found out her UK driver was going to be a dad, she was on the phone, trying to sort out a gift. It had to be something quirky, too – it’s part of her nature.”

Vocalist/Lyricist Trisha Benton Gives Electronic Genre a Boost With Alternate Seduction

As the lead vocalist/lyricist for the electronic group Alternate Seduction, Trisha got her start in music at the ripe age of 14, singing and playing the acoustic guitar at beach-side venues in Maryland and Delaware. She graduated college in 2005 with degrees in political science and environmental issues. After 2 years as a professional grassroots organizer with PIRG, she shifted gears and decided to bring new skills into music.

After 2 years of saturating herself with electronic music, she has an EP out as well as some single releases. She performs live with DJ/producer Adam Dutch Durham, as well as with a fully live electronic band, and sometimes feature back up dancers and other special guests.

Lady Gaga No Longer Associated with Laurieann Gibson

MTV confirmed the split of friendship between creative director Laurieann Gibson and Lady Gaga. Their falling out comes after a close working relationship since 2008.

Gibson provided choreography and artistic flare on videos including ‘Telephone’, ‘Alejandro’, and ‘Born This Way’. She also co-directed Gaga videos for ‘Judas’ and ‘You and I’. Their friendship betrayal began with the ‘Judas’ video where the two could not come to an agreement on final product. According to the Reporter Magazine Gibson quoted, ‘At one point, there was two completely different views and after the third glass of wine, I was like, ‘Listen, I don’t want lightning to strike me. I believe in the Gospel and I’m not going there.’

Trisha Benton and Adam Dutch Duo Form Band Alternate Seduction

If you like Kaskade, Thievery Corporation, & David Guetta, you’ll love dancing to Alternate Seduction. They mostly perform progressive house and beach house music.

Alternate Seduction is an up & coming electronic duo hailing from Baltimore. DJ Adam Dutch Durham spins down-temp and dance music with Trisha singing live original compositions and club classics. The vocal/DJ duo has performed at venues such as The Science Club in DC and Party Block/Rush in Ocean City, MD.

Top 5 Attractions at Musikfest in Bethlehem, PA

1.) Watch Cast-in-Bronze

Cast in Bronze is a musical act, notably including one of the only portable carillons, a musical instrument consisting of 23 or more tuned bells. Mounted on a frame, the instrument is played by striking wooden levers with fists and feet that are wired to each bell’s clapper. Due to their enormous weight, carillons typically reside in towers or other permanent structures.

2.) Try out the Chicken Kabobs

3.) Check Out a Few Concerts at SteelStacks

Musikfest will be held this year from Auguest 5th-14th and will include over 500 musical performances on 14 indoor and outdoor stages. Their will also be more than 60 vendors, visual arts and crafts, and closing-night fireworks display. This year’s theme titled, “The Song Remains….”  will feature new stages and venues offered by the SteelStacks Center.

Some of the performers for the 2011 lineup include The Stone Temple Pilots, Maroon 5, Alison Krauss & Union Station, Buckcherry, and Train.

4.) Try Polka Dancing

Check out some great Polka Dancing Bands in the large tent towards the Main Entrance and get your Polka groove on!

The Polka was introduced into the ballrooms of France and England in 1843. The Times of London described it as embracing the “intimacy of the waltz combined with the vivacity of the Irish jig”. It’s hard to imagine a time when the quick little closing half step was a novelty, yet from it, the dance was named. Polka, from the bohemian word pulka, which means half, refers to the little half step or close-step that is characteristic of this dance. One of the easiest ways to understand the rythm of the Polka is from this children’s song:

“Hippety hop, to the barber shop,
To buy a stick of candy.”

5.) Try the Lemonade

You’ll find sporadic lemonade stands conveniently located in between some of the main attractions at Musikfest. Whether you’ve just finished your Polka dancing session, or in transit to another event, this fresh tasting Musikfest hallmark will quench your thirst.
